About pharmaconomists
Pharmaconomist means expert in pharmaceuticals. The core competency of pharmacies is distribution, guidance and information about pharmaceuticals.

Here pharmaconomists play a central role. Pharmaconomists are trained to function as the connecting link between the locations where medicine is handled.

 

Pharmaconomists are distributed by work place as follows (1.1.2010):

 

  • 3216 at private pharmacies
  • 712 at hospitals
  • 469 in industry
  • 372 students
  • 809 passive members

 

The qualifications of pharmaconomists are regulated by law

 

A pharmaconomist is authorised to

  • dispense and check prescriptions
  • counsel customers about the use of medicine
  • dispense, sell and provide information about prescription and over-the-counter medicine
  • undertake specialist and managerial operation of branch pharmacies, and
  • undertake duty service
